Electricity is the most memorable invention during Lera France Quinn's 100 years of lifetime.

Getting electric service at her home in Glade Hill enabled the Quinn kinfolk of eight to install running water in the house and throw out carrying water in buckets from the "bottom of the hill," Quinn said this week.

It also meant stimulating lights replaced the Aladdin's oil lamps in the house. Her children still summon doing their homework under the bright lamps that lit the descendants in the evenings.

Electric service also enabled her overdue husband, Thomas, to install electric milkers in his dairy barn. He maintained a flock of about 30 cows, which he milked twice quotidian.

Electricity is still important in her life today. She remembers when the relatives got their first television set in the early 1950s. It had a small television and received signals from the only two stations in Roanoke, channels
